The birth anniversary of Ashu Zarathushtra
On the evening of 6th Farvardin, in rhythm with all the Iranian Zoroastrian Anjumans, Mazra-e Kalantar Anjuman celebrated the auspicious occasion of the birth of Ashu Zarathushtra, the first divine messenger, in Rostam Azarbad Hall of Mazra. The program started with Gatha recitation by Mehran Manuchehri and Sepand Izadi, followed by Nowrooz poem recited by Arnika Behmardi. Mehraban Pouladi, Head of the Anjuman, gave a welcome speech, in which he praised the divinity and thought provoking words of Zarathushtra. After his speech, a group of youngsters from Mazra, by the names of Sanaz Izadi, Mahshad Bastani, Mahsa Jamshidi, Triti Nowdini, Shabnam Soltanipour, Mehrnegar Mobed, Shirin Rafii and Arnika Behmardi, with tempo played by Rostam Nowdini, performed a play of laying the Nowrooz table (haft-seen), and the history behind each item on the table. This very interesting performance was well applauded. Then came the turn of Shahnameh recitation, by three young Zoroastrians, which was also well received by the audience. Jamasb Izadi performed a declamation and finally, Mehrdad Farzaneh sang one of the songs of Rostam Zerehpush.
The audience, then, started dancing to music and continued dancing until late at night.

17th Congress of Representatives of Zoroastrian Anjumans and Organizations of Iran
Hosted by the Anjuman of Mazra-e Kalantar
Report of the 17th Congress of Representatives of Zoroastrian Anjumans and Organizations of Iran
21 Bahman 3749 (Zoroastrian calendar) = February 9, 2012
The Congress commenced at 9 am, in Rostam Azarbad Conference Hall of Mazra-e Kalantar. The meeting started with recitation of Gathas by Mrs Khadem. Mobed Mehraban Pouladi, Head of Mazra-e Kalantar Anjuman, welcomed the participants and expressed his hopes that the Congress would take an effective step in promoting close cooperation between all Zoroastrian organizations of Iran.
Dr Esfandiar Ekhtiari first commemorated the memory of Rostam Azarbad and continued his speech by commemorating Dr Mahbanoo Tata, mother of the science of statistics in Iran. After introducing the participants he gave an explanation of the system of holding such sessions and stressed that such sessions are not political and only heads of Anjumans and Organizations are invited. He added that in this session everyone could participate and express their views.
The first item on the agenda was management of cultural heritages. In this respect, Mr Shahbahram Belivani displayed some slides about the trees in Pir-e Sabz and gave detailed explanation. It was decided that the dried cypress of Pir-e Sabz would stay and another cypress tree would be planted next to it. Regarding construction of restrooms for Pir-e Sabz, it was decided that a meeting would be held by members of the technical committee of the holy shrines, in Yazd, presided by Mr Dariushi and with the participation of all interested parties, and the resolutions would be implemented after approval by Sharifiabad Anjuman.
Ekhtiari said that all members of the Zoroastrian community are owners of the properties of the Organizations and these Organizations are only responsible for keeping and maintaining them. Therefore, this shows the weight of the responsibility of the Anjumans/Organizations and the necessity of participations of all Organizations, and that the responsibility of implementation is with the Anjumans. He added that the role of teams is consultation and expert advice to the Organizations and coordinations between Organizations. It was decided that all Anjumans prepare identity records for trees in the sites under their respective authority and pay special attention to them.
Yazd Anjuman presented a report on the renovation of Yazd Fire Temple and mentioned that this renovation was done in coordination with Cultural Heritage Organization. A report was presented regarding the system by which entrance tickets were collected for the Dakhma site, in 1391, which was approved by the participants. It was decided that the income collected would be spent for renovation of the site and improving services to the tourists.
It was proposed by Kucheh Buick Anjuman to collect entrance tickets for visiting Pir-e Naraki, during Nowrooz this year, on trial basis. Also, the need for a custodian for Pir-e Naraki was mentioned. Finally, it was proposed to asphalt the side road ending at the Pir, which was approved.
A report was presented by the Technical committee for Holy shrines and cultural sites and it was proposed to establish cooperation teams in various cities, which was approved.
Ekhtiari also stressed on the fact that spiritual heritages are more important than physical heritages and more attention should be paid to them. He thanked all the Anjumans for celebrating Sadeh, especially Kerman Anjuman for its well planned Sadeh program. Regarding management of cultural heritages various proposals were made by the representatives.

__________________________________________________________________________ “The cedar tree of Pir-e Sabz dried”.
Autopsy of the news:
By: Keyoumars Samia Kalantari
The cedar was a reminiscence of Ardeshir, who had planted it in memory of his father, Sandal who lost his life for his faith in the Pir. The tree died and no one took the blame. Everyone threw the responsibility on the other. Let us see what happened and how the Pir came to its present state. I am writing according to my own knowledge and wherever I am wrong, please correct me. I do not mean to accuse anybody, but to try to find out why the tree dried. The reason I am mentioning Sharifabad Anjoman is because Pir-e Sabz has been registered in the name of Sharifabad Zoroastrian Anjoman. The people of Mazra-e Kalantar and Sharifabad, as they say, were inseparable and even at death were buried next to each other. In November of 1987, Banoo and Bahram, the last of the Mazraie keepers of Pir-e Sabz were driven out of the Pir by Sharifabad Anjoman. When Sharifabad Zoroastrian Anjoman was established and registered, Maybod was not a district yet. Therefore, the Anjoman was registered as Sharifabad & Suburbs Anjoman, and the ‘Suburbs’ consisted of Mazra-e Kalantar and Hassanabad. Since Pir-e Sabz had been, since long ago, kept by the people of Mazra-e Kalantar, it was agreed that this arrangement continues for Pir-e Sabz, the keeping of Pir-e Hrisht is entrusted to Sharifabad and Pir-e Banoo to Hassanabad. Hassanabad very soon gave up the responsibility to Sharifabad. At that time, Bahman Reissi was Director of Yazd Zoroastrian Anjoman and there was a conflict between him and Sharifabad Anjoman. Since the keepers of Pir-e Sabz were on the side of Bahman Reissi, Sharifabad Anjoman showed reaction by obtaining the order for vacating the Pir, from Ardakan court and driving the keepers out of Pir-e Sabz. They did this without first learning from the keepers’ centuries old knowledge and experience about the place. I may comment here that some of the members of our community have such an attitude. For instance, I have noticed something interesting; after each election the new members of an Anjoman avoid using the knowledge and experience of the previous members.
Instead of those who had such strong faith in the Pir and felt deep responsibility towards it because they had inherited this responsibility from their ancestors, Sharifabad Anjoman put a person in charge, who knew nothing about the Pir, had no interest in it and was not used to living in a quiet and lonely place. Therefore, whenever someone gave him company at nights he would accept it happily, and this fact resulted in non-Zoroastrians going to the Pir for partying.
Sharifabad Anjoman thought of doing something for the development of Pir-e Sabz. The then Zoroastrian MP, who was from Sharifabad, cooperated with the Anjoman and they got the road from Ardakan to Pir-e Sabz asphalted. The asphalted road made it easy for swarms of tourists to start visiting the Pir throughout the year.
The then Director of Sharifabad Anjoman was sincerely wanting to do something for the Pir, and when he saw the amount of tourists going to Pir-e Sabz he realized that one person was not enough to handle the job. Therefore, he thought of employing a team to manage the Pir. Unfortunately, he did not live long enough to materialize his plans.
Very soon, due to some construction defects in the Pir, the Zoroastrian MP formed a renovation committee and this committee decided that the pond behind the shrine was leaking and the houses below could be damaged, so it should be repaired. They repaired the pond in such a way that no water leaked from the bottom any more. After a while they noticed that the tree inside the shrine was drying. Fortunately, since this tree is registered as a cultural heritage, the Cultural Heritage Organization immediately inspected the site and gave a warning that the construction of the pond had to be redone and there should be some leakage so that water reaches the roots of the tree. Some holes were drilled in the bottom of the pond so that water could leak toward the tree. After the pond, the stairway was repaired and again the flooring did not allow any water to penetrate from it. As a result the tall and beautiful cedar started drying. They started drilling holes into the stairway but it was too late. It seems that it was too lake when they realized that the tree was feeding from the leakage from the pond through the stairway.
Nima Talaie, a Zoroastrian handicapped artist, from Mazra-e Kalantar
There are many talented boys and girls in the Zoroastrian community, who should be known to everybody, and encouraged in any way possible. Fortunately, various Zoroastrian media have been writing about these talented members of our community, and we are doing similarly through our site.
The two below sketches are samples of the works of Nima Talaie, a Zoroastrian handicapped artist. Nima, born in 1963, is the grandson of (shadravan) Firoozeh Kaykhosrow Derakhti. He showed interest in drawing from early childhood, and in spite of being handicapped he has been able to draw so beautifully.
May Ahura Mazda bestow to Nima everlasting success and happiness.

News from Sydney Zoroastrian Anjuman
Fariborz Jamshidi, Head of Sydney Zoroastrian Anjuman, has some interesting news for our site. Sydney Anjuman plans to celebrate 'Shab-e Chelleh' on 21st December, being the longest night of the year. The program of this occasion will include a speech on the scientific background of this celebration, the traditional 'Chak-o-Duleh' ceremony (a fun ceremony where participants gather round an earthenware jar and recite poems for each other),and reciting Hafez poems. Dinner will be potluck. The second news is that members of the Anjuman have agreed that on the last Friday of each month all members gather in the Anjuman and get busy doing overall cleaning, repair where necessary, wall painting, etc., on voluntary basis. It is worth noting that the members that regularly participate in these Friday activities are all from Mazra-e Kalantar, namely, Fariborz Jamshidi, Arash Behmardi, Mehraban Kademi and Khodarahm Behmardi! It is a source of pride to see
that wherever the people of Mazra are living now-a-days, they voluntarily participate in all social activities of the Zoroastrian community. We are proud to say that wherever a Mazraie is seen he is serving our community, in some way or the other.
We wish you all, success in your sacred endeavors.
